It’s an important decision on behalf of the US government to establish direct regular correspondence with provincial administration and non-governmental bodies which are more closely involved in various developmental projects in their respective areas. By directly funding the projects, a significant part of the funds can be saved and the desirable activities for which the aid is meant can be completed sooner than before. Nevertheless, the US aid under the Kerry-Lugar program will also need close and direct monitoring by the US authorities to minimize the risk of corruption at the provincial and organizational levels. At the same time, the assessment of needs and priorities in particular areas, like the restive FATA zone, also needs to be monitored directly by special American teams in collaboration with sincere community members to avoid the possibility of misrepresentation and exaggeration of the actual problems faced by people in the country’s backward areas.
